Welcome to my overview and review of Fearless by Lauren Roberts. I have read both Powerless and Reckless, as well as the novella Powerful. All three of the books I have thoroughly enjoyed and looked forward to reading Fearless. When the publication date was announced, I preordered the Barnes and Noble special edition since that is the kind I have for the previous three books.
Fearless is the third and final book in the Powerless Series, accompanied by two additional novellas: one has already been published, and the other will be released on September 2nd, 2025.
Overview of Fearless
My overview will contain spoilers for all previous books, so if you have not read them, I would suggest saving this post for later and coming back! I will not mention any spoilers for Fearless, though, so don’t worry.
Reckless ends with Paedyn being brought to the castle by Kai, to a shocking proposal to be Queen instead of being executed. She is told that Ilya is quickly declining, and with her, an Ordinary, on the throne, she will help unite Ilya both Elites and Ordinaries.
Fearless shows how Paedyn navigates her marriage proposal and how she will win the hearts of the kingdom. As the reader, we also get to see how her relationship plays out with both brothers, one she truly loves, and one that cannot forgive her for the death of their father. Another set of Trials is to take place, and secrets are uncovered that answer a lot of questions for Kitt, Kai, and Paedyn.
Review
After reading the book, I rated it a 3.75 on Goodreads due to some negative feelings I had about the plot in the book. Overall, I think that the storyline was great and there were some great twists that I could not predict, but the repetitiveness in the first half of the book made reading slightly annoying.
Adena, Paedyn’s best friend, was a big part of where Paedyn came from and how she survived. I do not think that Adena needed to be mentioned as many times as she was within Fearless. Especially during the first half of the book, I hate to say it, but at points I was getting annoyed at the constant reminder and “woah is me” Paedyn was talking about. The repetition of the fact that Adena’s light was gone from the world and Paedyn’s soul was so “dark and stained” led the moments where Adena’s memory should have been used (and was) to be less beneficial to the emotional aspect because I was already tired of reading about it. After about halfway through Fearless, the usage of Adena’s memory decreased, and when it was used, it made me sad. There were times when fabric was mentioned, and Paedyn went back to loot, and mentioning her best friend during these scenes was moving, and I enjoyed that as a reader.
Another part of the book that I thoroughly enjoy is the plot twist. There are characters that return from the previous books who you would have never guessed are actually acting as the bad guys. I also really enjoyed getting to finally solve who Paedyn’s family is and see her get a happy ending after everything she has been through. There are some big and “powerful” moments for her where she realizes she is so much more than what she thought she was.
Overall, I would recommend this book, especially if you liked the first two. I think that the author gave us a great ending and wrapped up a lot of questions that needed to be answered since book one. I am very excited for the next novella to come out in September (keep an eye out for my review!)
